Skype Therapy Sessions

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong, and I am a professional registered psychotherapist from Boulder, Colorado. Besides seeing clients in person, I also offer online counseling therapy through Skype. Skype Therapy, as it’s commonly called, is becoming increasingly popular. It’s so convenient for people. It means that you’re able to schedule your sessions during your work day without having to leave home or leave the office. It’s very convenient. With Skype, you’re able to see the person as well as talk to them. It’s really no different than being in an office, or in person. It’s the same quality of the one-on-one counseling that you could receive in an office, but with the added convenience, as I say.

Many people like this format because it is something that allows them to find the right kind of therapist to work with, someone that they feel comfortable with. That’s extremely important. Good therapy depends on having the right kind of relationship with your therapist. It has to feel good for you as the client. Also, I find that Skype Therapy works extremely well with the form of therapy that I specialize in, which is called Mindfulness Therapy; which I talk about in my book, ‘The Path of Mindfulness Meditation’.

Mindfulness Therapy has grown tremendously in popularity in the last 5 to 10 years now. Our understanding of what mindfulness is and how to use it to effectively work with emotions like anxiety, panic attacks, depression, stress, has grown tremendously. It’s really very, very well worth exploring in detail. What is mindfulness? Basically, it is a form of awareness that we can define as non-reactive awareness. That means that you’re able to sit, literally sit with your emotions without becoming overwhelmed by them, without becoming reactive. This is absolutely essential for healing to occur. The only way that your anxiety or panic attacks will eventually subside is if you can sit with those emotions without feeding them with your reactivity, particularly of course, reactive thinking, avoidance behaviors, or any of these other reactivities that tend to become habits. Mindfulness Therapy is an excellent choice.

Most people who suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, depression or other forms of emotional stress and inner conflict are not ill. Most of the clients who choose online counseling are just struggling with difficult patterns of emotional reactivity that probably started in childhood and are affecting the quality of life now.

You are probably looking for effective ways to manage anxiety or depression other than resorting to medications, which only treat the symptoms and rarely change the underlying cause of your emotional suffering. During the Skype Online Therapy Sessions, I teach you mindfulness-based methods for working with your emotions that most people find extremely effective. I give you the tools to change those habitual patterns of emotional reactivity that cause your anxiety or depression.

Whether you meet with a therapist in-person or online, the path is the same for you. At the end of the day, you need to change the way you relate to your emotions. You need to make friends with your emotions.

This is a revolutionary concept for most people, but it an essential requirement for transformation and healing if you really want to change your emotional habits.

This is a core principle of Mindfulness Therapy as I teach it, and I am always amazed at the results that clients experience when they understand how to do this, how to make friends with their anxiety or depression; their anger or guilt; or their compulsive addictions.

Skype provides a new outlet for the therapy world. Individuals can now get all the advantages of one-on-one counseling from the comfort of their home.

You get Skype therapy while sitting at your sitting room or from your bedroom. Clients who tried receiving therapy via Skype have reported no difference in the efficacy relative to  face-to-face therapy sessions. Actually, some say they love the therapy via Skype because they feel that they are considerably more focused on the issue they are dealing with. Staring at the screen gives them a point of convergence and keeps their attention.

Skype is free and very easy to use, once you have registered, all you need are:

A fast connection

A headset or speaker for listening.

A private, quiet and safe place for the therapy session, where nobody is going to bother you.

A comfortable seat, perhaps with a head rest if you want and maybe a foot stool if that going to make it more comfortable.

Skype enables you to make video calls to your online therapist, so you will be able to see him/her when you are talking. Again, a few individuals prefer to be in their own particular space instead of being in the same room as a therapist. On Skype, you can see your therapist face in a live linkup – so there’s still the sense of connection.

You can address anybody on this planet provided (as said earlier), if they also have a computer or laptop and Skype (and maybe a webcam). So you can probably be in the US and have a session with your therapist in the UK.

Video Therapy also known as Online Therapy enables meeting between you and your therapist over the web using a webcam. You can see and hear the therapist and the other way around. It is just very similar to face-to-face therapy. The individuals who find the anonymity and invisibility of email or chat may not find Skype counseling as appealing.

Online psychotherapy and counseling through Skype is getting to be more popular and useful for busy individuals. It has been noticed of a dramatic increment in the number of people who want to have therapy sessions in the comfort of their space instead of driving to a therapist’s office. Most people say that they find online therapy over Skype to be less intimidating than face to face sessions and that they also feel in charge of the process and more relaxed. It is astounding how viable Skype therapy sessions are. In spite of the fact that Skype therapists and clients may be miles apart, it always feels like you’re in the same room. This format is getting to be exceptionally well-known for individuals who travel, individuals who are single parent and for individuals who are not able to leave home for some reason or those in remote area. It’s a help for those suffering from agoraphobia, who are trying to adapt how to adapt to wandering out.

Another awesome aspect of Skype is that it can now be installed on some mobile phones that support it, therefore you can make telephone calls just like normal calls from your cellphone without an additional cost of international calls. If you have a general issue, problem or abnormal addiction and you need online therapy, there is an assistance for you out there. Skype therapy sessions are the key to get back on your feet!

What makes this therapy method so appealing? Here are some benefits to the Skype Therapy.

  1. Home Therapy Means Secure and Relaxed Sessions

Skype counseling is profoundly perfect for patients who are battling difficult anxieties and worries of the outside world. Individuals with social anxieties, agoraphobia, obsessive behavior or the individuals who have encountered a deeply traumatic occurrence will find psychotherapy or cognitive behavioral therapy more worthy in their own environments. Rather than not having access to appropriate therapy because of a horrifying fear of going out from one’s home, patients can without much of a stress get the treatment they require with therapists using Skype

  1. Skype Counseling Enables Uninterrupted Therapy Sessions

Therapy may not be helpful that some individuals may have to travel from one city to another just to get a therapy. This could likewise mean needing to find a new therapist in a new area, so that the individual could get the treatment they require. The issue with this situation is that it could take an extended period of time before some patients find the perfect therapist they’ll be comfortable with and more vitally, actually like. The therapist might be the best in his/her field, yet if the patient is not connecting or relating with the therapist, the therapy will undoubtedly be unsuccessful. Through Skype therapy, patients can proceed with their sessions with their consistent therapists – wherever they may be on the planet.

  1. Skype Therapy Saves Time

Choosing Skype counseling can eliminate patient’s time to travel, which is great advantage for individuals who live in distant regions. In addition to time saving, without the need of traveling to and fro to the therapist’s office, patients don’t also need to worry over dealing with heavy traffic.
