This is because all of these emotional problems are based on chronic underlying psychological emotional habits that tend to operate out of awareness like any habit, and they tend to get triggered and then we become captured by that habit. It triggers an internal psychological habit that then creates the emotion.

Mindfulness is really one of the best ways of breaking out of this cycle of habitual reactive thinking. We learn how to essentially change our relationship to our thoughts in our mind.
We learn to sit with our thoughts, to sit with our emotions, and cultivate what is called "independence", that is we're able to sit and watch a thought, but without becoming identified with it and without feeding the reactivity. The same with emotions: we learn to focus mindfulness on our emotions so that we can develop independence and balance in relationship to those emotions, and in this way we stop feeding the reactive thinking that feeds that emotion. So, through mindfulness therapy training you will learn exactly how to do this.
And from my experience this is perhaps the most effective way of dealing with anxiety and depression and the compulsive impulses behind an addiction or OCD or most common psychological problems that cause emotional suffering.

We do this by learning how to meditate on our anxiety. Now most people think that meditation is a way of escaping anxiety, it's a way of creating a blissful state of mind and distracting ourselves from our emotions. But this is a mistake. It's absolutely clear from working with people that the biggest problem that prevents them getting over anxiety are patterns of avoidance and aversion. Trying to get away from the anxiety simply makes it stronger. Fighting the anxiety through resistance or becoming fearful of it it's also simply feeds the anxiety.
The conditions which leads to change are those in which you develop more conscious awareness and more friendliness towards your anxiety. This may seem counter-intuitive but it is a fact. The more friendly you become towards that part of yourself that's in pain, the more that part will heal. Tt takes some practice and it takes some guidance, and that's what I offer during these counseling sessions for anxiety.
If you really develop and practice in this way you will see substantial changes after three to four sessions of Skype counseling. And most of my clients really get on top of their anxiety quite well after learning to apply the mindfulness methods that I teach.
