Online therapy sessions through Skype - Psychotherapy online
Welcome! My name is Peter Strong and I am a professional online counselor. I specialize in Online Mindfulness Psychotherapy for the treatment of anxiety, depression and addictions.

Now, anxiety therapy online is becoming highly popular for many reasons. Increased convenience is certainly one of those reasons, but another reason is, of course, because of the condition itself - anxiety. People experiencing anxiety often find it very difficult to go to a therapist in his or her office, in-person. So the online therapist option is a very attractive alternative for the treatment of anxiety and also for other anxiety disorders such as agoraphobia and social phobia.

Whatever the style of psychotherapy that you like, you need to transform the underlying structure of the anxiety or depression itself.

Conventional Talk Therapy can be helpful, but often it does not look at the underlying structure, the underlying process that creates your depression or anxiety.

The same can be said for medications - the drug may provide a temporary relief from symptoms for awhile, but medications are not going to change the underlying psychological process that causes your anxiety or depression.

So, it is recommended that you find what we might call a process-centered therapy that focuses on changing the underlying process that creates the anxiety or depression. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, is an example of a process-oriented therapy. Mindfulness Therapy, which is a system of work that I developed in the 1980's incorporates CBT methods with the addition of mindfulness, and this is another extremely popular process-oriented therapy and it works extremely well for anxiety and emotional suffering produced by uncontrolled reactive thinking.

This online psychotherapy service is available world-wide, including the USA, UK and Europe.

Skype Therapy - A Better Alternative for You

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong, and I am a professional registered psychotherapist from Boulder, Colorado. Besides seeing clients in person, I also offer online counseling therapy through Skype. Skype Therapy, as it's commonly called, is becoming increasingly popular. It's so convenient for people. It means that you're able to schedule your sessions during your work day without having to leave home or leave the office. It's very convenient. With Skype, you're able to see the person as well as talk to them. It's really no different than being in an office, or in person. It's the same quality of the one-on-one counseling that you could receive in an office, but with the added convenience, as I say.

Many people like this format because it is something that allows them to find the right kind of therapist to work with, someone that they feel comfortable with. That's extremely important. Good therapy depends on having the right kind of relationship with your therapist. It has to feel good for you as the client. Also, I find that Skype Therapy works extremely well with the form of therapy that I specialize in, which is called
Mindfulness Therapy and which I talk about in my book, 'The Path of Mindfulness Meditation'.

Mindfulness Therapy has grown tremendously in popularity in the last 5 to 10 years now. Our understanding of what mindfulness is and how to use it to effectively work with emotions like anxiety, panic attacks, depression, stress, has grown tremendously. It's really very, very well worth exploring in detail. What is mindfulness? Basically, it is a form of awareness that we can define as non-reactive awareness. That means that you're able to sit, literally sit with your emotions without becoming overwhelmed by them, without becoming reactive. This is absolutely essential for healing to occur. The only way that your anxiety or panic attacks will eventually subside is if you can sit with those emotions without feeding them with your reactivity, particularly of course, reactive thinking, avoidance behaviors, or any of these other forms of reactivity that tend to become habits. Mindfulness Therapy is an excellent choice.

Send me an email or use the contact form. Tell me about yourself and your interests. Let's explore how I can help you through Mindfulness Therapy via Skype. Thank you.

Mindfulness Psychotherapy Online. Talk to an Online Therapist via Skype

Find a Skype therapist to help you

Skype Therapy with a Skype Therapist allows you to talk to a therapist online in real time as if you were in the therapist's office. More and more people are choosing this as an alternative to the older style in the office therapy sessions. It is certainly more convenient for you and there is now plenty of evidence showing that online therapy is just as effective as traditional face-to-face psychotherapy, especially with the use of videoconferencing.

When choosing a Skype therapist to work with, make sure that you can email him first and discuss whether Skype therapy is appropriate for you and your specific needs and that you feel comfortable with your choice of therapist.

I specialize in Mindfulness Therapy, which is designed to help you work with anxiety and depression or any other emotional problems. During Skype therapy sessions you will learn how to transform the inner structure of your emotions so that they heal and resolve. Many people have the sense that their emotional pain is stuck and will not heal, rather like an infected cut. When we bring mindfulness to our emotional pain we actually create the right conditions that facilitate healing. This approach is quite different to traditional talk therapy and counseling and I will be happy to explain more about how it works if you would like to CONTACT ME. You can also learn a lot more about Skype therapy and the online therapy process on my website.

Skype Therapist for Anxiety and Depression

Perhaps 70% of my Skype Therapy clients (mostly US and UK) are looking for help with anxiety, usually Generalized Anxiety Disorder or Social Anxiety Disorder. I have also worked with many house-bound individuals suffering from agoraphobia, who find it extremely difficult to leave home. Most have already been to a doctor and are taking a prescription medication to manage their anxiety or depression and have had experience with a conventional in-person talk-based psychotherapy or counseling and are generally looking for an alternative to both. Medications and counseling do little to change the underlying psychological process that causes your anxiety or depression.

I attempt to address this need for an alternative approach to psychotherapy that DOES transform the underlying cause rather than just provide temporary relief from symptoms.

Anxiety and Depression are Psychological Habits

I think this is one of the first concepts to understand. Anxiety, depression, addiction and other forms of emotional suffering are the product of unconscious psychological habits produced by conditioning. These habits have triggers, which mat be mental or physical, internal or external. These triggers (a memory, a physical sensation in the body, a thought or belief, unkind words from another, loss, failure, etc) should never be thought of as the CAUSE of anxiety or depression but simply as triggers. What they trigger is that unconscious internal psychological habit, which in turn creates the experience of emotional suffering.

It is a common delusion to believe that, "I am angry because he insulted me," or "I am anxious because I may lose control," or "I am afraid because of the memory of being abused as a child." None of these events constitute a CAUSE. If they did then we would never be able to change how we feel, yet we DO recover from traumatic experiences, disappointments, loss, failures, etc. Why? Because the structure of the psychological habit changes even though the actual objective event and facts do not.

Anxiety, Depression and Emotions are based on Imagery

What is the nature of these psychological habits? All emotions have an internal structure, and this structure is based on IMAGERY. This is called the STRUCTURAL THEORY OF EMOTIONS. All emotions have a structure and that structure is in the form of imagery - how you SEE your emotions in the mind. This is immensely important because imagery can be changed, and AS YOU CHANGE THE IMAGERY YOU CHANGE THE EMOTION.

Typically, most intense emotions are too big, too close and too intense in color. The size and position and other imagery of the emotion constitutes that internal psychological habit that gets triggered, but the emotional reaction is a product of the imagery and NOT the triggers.

During Mindfulness Therapy we investigate the image structure of your anxiety or depression in great detail. Most people are unaware of how their emotions work because they have never looked into the structure of their emotions. But this is the key to overcoming anxiety or depression - uncover that imagery and investigate making changes in that imagery.

During Skype Therapy Sessions I will teach you how to transform the imagery of you emotions

Skype therapist offering Mindfulness Therapy over Skype

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong and I am a professional online therapist. I provide therapy over Skype for anxiety, for the treatment of depression and also I provide addiction counseling online.

If you would like to talk to a Skype therapist, do please go to my website and read more about Skype therapy and Mindfulness Therapy, which is what I offer online and contact me with any questions that you may have and let's schedule a trial Skype therapy session.

Most of my clients who are seeking Skype therapy are looking for an alternative to the conventional counseling or psychotherapy that you may be used to. They are also looking for an alternative to prescription medications. In my experience, the conventional form of counseling or talk therapy, and medications, may produce temporary benefits in reducing symptoms, but they do nothing to change the underlying cause.

That underlying cause of anxiety or depression is psychological in nature, whatever the trigger. Whether that trigger is internal, in the form of thoughts or memories; whether it is external in events, loss, success or failure, all the ups and downs of life. These events themselves are not the cause of anxiety or depression; they are simply triggers.

The cause is internal in the form of a psychological habit. That habit is triggered by internal or external events. But, the psychological habit is what we need to change if you are to overcome anxiety or depression in any significant way.

Mindfulness Therapy works on doing just this, on helping you transform that underlying habit.

Now for most people, if not all people, you will find that the basic structure of a habit, a psychological habit, is in the form of imagery. Anxiety or depression is produced by internal imagery that gets triggered by those external or internal events. So we need to change this internal imagery.

It's no wonder we say, for example, "I feel overwhelmed." That, right there, shows you very clearly the nature of the underlying imagery process that is creating your emotion. Feeling overwhelmed implies that the emotion is seen as being very large and, most likely, at a higher position that is seen above you at the psychological level.

So that psychological imagery is what actually causes the anxiety or depression. This we can change once we become aware of that imagery and how it works. The imagery becomes habitual; that's really all there is to it. We are not usually aware of our imagery, we don't see how it works so it simply repeats itself and gets triggered over and over again through the normal mechanisms of psychological conditioning.

But, once you become aware of the imagery that get's triggered, then you can begin to change it, and a central thesis in Mindfulness Therapy is that, when you change the imagery you change the emotion. So, in Mindfulness Therapy we use mindfulness to investigate the actual structure of your emotions; we want to see how they work.

Then, after exploring the imagery, we use mindfulness to explore making subtle changes to that imagery, to see how that affects the anxiety or depression directly. Through repetition you can establish a new image structure for the emotion, so that even if the triggers are still present it ceases to trigger the original anxiety or depression. Now, it may trigger more positive outcomes, more positive insights or perceptions or beliefs about yourself and those events.

All this is possible when you actually bring conscious awareness to explore the structure of your emotions, and this is what we do during Mindfulness Therapy. As a Skype therapist, I offer Mindfulness Therapy over Skype.

Most people will see quite dramatic changes after relatively few sessions, and the reason is quite clear, because we are working on changing the underlying cause of your anxiety, depression or any other emotional state that you may be struggling with.

Work on changing that psychological habit, work on changing the imagery of that psychological habit and you will soon see beneficial results.

So, if you would like to talk to me in more detail and schedule a therapy session over Skype, please go to my website and email me and then we can schedule a session that works for you. And, you can see for yourself the incredible benefits you can get through this kind of approach to working with anxiety or depression or other forms of emotional suffering. Thank you.

Skype Psychotherapy Online for Anxiety and Depression

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong and I am a professional online therapist and I offer Skype psychotherapy online.

Skype Psychotherapy Online for Overcoming Anxiety & Depression

Psychotherapy through Skype is becoming much more common and widely accepted these days especially for the non-medical treatment options, which is what I offer. The Skype therapy sessions that I offer are primarily designed to help you learn very effective methods of overcoming those habitual patterns of anxiety or depression that get triggered and that create so much suffering for you.

Anxiety and depression are at the end of the day primarily emotional habits; these are psychological habits; it is a psychological process that produces anxiety and depression.

The best means for changing a psychological habit is going to be some form of psychotherapy; and that's what I offer. I offer online psychotherapy using, actually, a system that I developed some years ago that I call Mindfulness Therapy, which is very effective for changing those habitual patterns of reactive thinking and emotional reactivity that feeds anxiety and depression.

Th first stage in effective Skype psychotherapy is learning to change the way that you relate to your emotions. We have to learn to become The Observer, to become conscious of your anxiety or depression or other emotions that appear in the mind, that get triggered because of these habits. We need to become conscious of them, but without becoming reactive and without becoming overwhelmed by the emotion. You have to develop what we call a Mindfulness-Based Relationship with your anxiety or depression or other emotions.

With training and with practice you can begin to break free from the habit itself, and when you stop feeding the habit then the emotion begins to subside. It will heal quite naturally by itself if you stop feeding it through becoming identified with the anxiety or depression.

During Mindfulness Therapy sessions we learn to effectively sit with our emotions and care for them with a quality of compassion and friendliness along with a great deal of conscious awareness. So, we learn to care for our emotions, we learn to take care of them the same way that a parent would take care of a child in pain.

This relationship is absolutely fundamental to successful psychotherapy. In my opinion, it is the defining factor as to whether psychotherapy is effective or not. It is the quality of relationship that you build with your emotions that matters.

If you would like to learn more about Skype psychotherapy online sessions do please go to my website and learn more about Skype therapy and this whole process, and email me and we can schedule an online therapy session. So, go to my website and email me. Thank you!

Skype-based Psychotherapy is empowering

I am frequently asked if I provide online psychotherapy via Skype. People really seem to enjoy, and in quite a few cases, actually prefer talking to a psychotherapist through Skype rather than in-person. I think it feels more empowering for the client in many cases and avoids the situation where the client feels "put on the spot" which, from my experience as a therapist and teacher can significantly interfere with the therapy process. Taking on the role of "patient" at the mercy of the therapist does not leave a person feeling empowered and in charge of their healing process. In fact, the whole transformation process is about developing that sense of empowerment, so it is not entirely surprising that Skype-based psychotherapy can be more effective than in-person sessions.

This empowering factor is immensely important if you are struggling with anxiety or social phobia. It really helps if you feel more in control of the therapy process. It also helps that you conduct your sessions from the comfort of your own home, where you naturally feel more secure.

Skype-based Psychotherapy is More Convenient

Another reason why more people decide on Skype-based psychotherapy is convenience. We all have incredible busy life styles these days and it is frequently just not possible to take the time out of our busy schedule to drive to a therapist's office. This is particularly the case in busy cities like New York or Los Angeles or San Francisco. Using the internet allows you to avoid the commute altogether.

Perhaps you live abroad and cannot find a local therapist who speaks English? This is another common reason why people seek online psychotherapy through Skype.

Even within the US or UK, there may not be any local therapists that you like or would want to work with. Privacy is a big issue for some and the anonymity of Skype therapy sessions is very attractive.

I Offer Mindfulness Therapy Online

A growing number of people are dissatisfied with the older style "talking therapies" and the whole medical approach to what is, at the end of the day, a very human problem. People want  a more positive client-centered approach rather than a medical disease-centered approach.

Mindfulness Therapy is one of a growing number of such positive therapies, but it is difficult to find a therapist who specializes in this area. The internet gives you greater access (more empowering yet again) to find exactly the right approach and the right person. Skype Psychotherapy sessions allow you to do this.

Skype Therapy - Overcome Anxiety and Depression

Mindfulness-based Skype Therapy for Overcoming Anxiety, Depression and Addictions

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong, and I am a professional online therapist. I offer therapy via Skype as an alternative to conventional office sessions. The reason I do this is because many of my clients have very busy lives and they sometimes travel abroad, or are living abroad, and would like to continue their sessions at a time that suits them, and this convenience factors is one of the main advantages of Skype Therapy.

Skype Therapy for Anxiety, Depression & Addictions

The other real advantage of Skype Therapy is that it is much more comfortable for you, the client; much less intimidating. It's less clinical in nature, and in fact, the whole approach of Mindfulness Therapy, which is what I offer online. is one of empowering you, is one of teaching you how to work with your emotions in a positive and constructive way, using the the very practical and effective methods of Mindfulness Therapy.

Really, what we are most concerned with doing is helping you change your relationship to your emotions. Most of us live in fear of our emotional suffering, of our anxiety, our panic attacks, our depression or our compulsion if it's an addiction you are dealing with. We try to avoid them or we react with tremendous aversion, self-criticism and self-loathing. Avoidance and Aversion are your worst enemies. They simply fuel the underlying process of emotional suffering and prevent change. It is possible to change anxiety and depression or addiction, but you must first develop a conscious and friendly relationship with your emotions, and this is perhaps one of the hallmarks of Mindfulness Therapy.

When you have the right relationship with your emotions then they begin to change. You effectively create the right internal psychological conditions that allow them to change. So, this is what we call establishing Right Relationship with emotions, and this is a very, very important foundation in Mindfulness Therapy.

The other thing that we explore during our online therapy sessions is to investigate the actual structure of your emotions; how they actually work. This is quite different than conventional "talk therapy." We are not talking about emotions, we are actually exploring them to find out how they work. And this is where we come into the area of what is called Emotional Imagery, because its the way you see your emotions and thoughts in the mind that determines how intense they are and how powerful or overwhelming those emotions are. It's how you see them, how you picture those thoughts and emotions in the mind, and of course most of us are not aware of this, but mindfulness is all about generating awareness and consciousness and investigating the actual structure of your emotions.

Now, the general rule here is the more you look, the more you see. The more you explore the image structure of your emotions the more detail you will discover. This starts to gave you choice because you can change that imagery, and as you change the emotional imagery, the emotion itself begins to change. So, that's a second theme that we develop during online Skype therapy sessions. We look at the structure of your emotions, we look at the imagery and we start to explore making changes in that imagery that leads to a reduction to anxiety or depression or compulsion.

So, if you are interested in learning more about Skype Therapy and the mindfulness therapy approach, do please CONTACT ME through my website.

There are three steps: The first is to contact me and tell me about yourself and the emotional problems that you are struggling with.

The second step is to schedule a Trial Skype Therapy Session. Now a trial session means that you don't have to pay anything upfront. You only make your payment through PayPal for the session if you are completely satisfied and that you would like to continue mindfulness therapy with me.

The third step after the first trial session is to monitor your progress, because Mindfulness Therapy, as I said before, is quite different than conventional talk therapy; it's much faster, and I expect all my clients to see significant improvements after about 3-4 sessions. You will know very clearly after the first couple of sessions if this is going to be effective for you and that's important. You should expect results and I intend to help you get those results, to see real significant redaction in the level of your anxiety, real significant reduction in the level of your depression, and real freedom from compulsion and addiction. So, those are the three steps.

PLEASE CONTACT ME and let's discuss this further and schedule a Skype Therapy session to help you better manage your anxiety and depression. Thank you!

Skype Therapy Online - Very Effective for Overcoming the Emotional Habits of Anxiety and Depression

It is more productive to think of anxiety and depression as negative emotional habits rather than medical disorders. They are psychological habits and respond best to psychotherapy rather than medications for long-term relief.

Skype Therapy Online - Very Effective for Anxiety & Depression

Welcome! I offer Skype therapy online as an alternative to conventional in-person psychotherapy.

Why would we choose online therapy via Skype? Well, the main reason is convenience, of course, for you. It makes it easier and more accessible to you, and this is important because many people are too busy to take the time off to travel to a therapist's office. You want to be able to integrate it into your day so you can have your online psychotherapy session from home or from the office or when you are traveling or wherever works for you.

This is one of the factors that has led to the tremendous growth in online therapy in general, is convenience.

Another reason why you might want to consider Skype therapy online is because it is a way of getting access to this new form of psychotherapy that I have developed and people are very interested in, which is called Mindfulness Therapy. There are not many psychotherapists trained in Mindfulness Therapy yet. There will be in time; I am trying to help develop programs for training in Mindfulness Therapy. But, at this point it is not so widely available.

So, the online option means that you can work with me wherever you live. Anywhere throughout the United States, or abroad, Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, South Korea. You name it, I have worked with clients all over the world. All you need is an internet connection and a laptop or a tablet and you can organize Skype therapy online sessions.

So, what do I teach you during these therapy sessions that makes the difference? What is Mindfulness Therapy?

Well, this approach, first of all, is about empowering you, it's about giving you methods and tools and techniques and approaches that you can apply yourself to free yourself from the emotional habits of anxiety, depression, addiction, OCD, insomnia, panic attacks, driving anxiety.

Whatever it might be, these are all, at the end of the day, these are all emotional habits, they are psychological habits that become established subconsciously and that begin to take over if we are not careful.

Mindfulness is about developing a tremendous degree of conscious awareness to uncover these habits, to see them directly so that you can change these habits, and when you can break free from the automatic, habitual process of these emotional habits then you are free to discover better ways of being in the world. You are free to become a happier person, to become more balanced, to be able to tolerate stress more effectively, to be able to communicate better in your relationships and family, at work.

We should think of our minds as basically being incredibly competent already for handling the stresses and the challenges of life. The problem is these emotional habits that get established and that obscure that natural inner wisdom that you already have.

So, Mindfulness Therapy recognizes this incredible positive underlying nature that we call your True Self and it focuses on liberating you from these habits that obscure your True Self. It is removing the blockages that prevent the natural expression of your passion, your intelligence, your creativity and your love.

So, that is a little bit about Mindfulness Therapy. It is undoubtedly one of THE most effective approaches for overcoming the habits of anxiety and depression. It is highly recommended for anxiety and depression.

If you are interested in learning more, please go to my website, and if you are ready to schedule an online Skype therapy session with me via Skype then please send me an email and we can arrange a time that works for you.

So, if you want to learn more about online Skype therapy, go to my website and if you want to schedule a session with me, please email me. Thank you!

Most people who suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, depression or other forms of emotional stress and inner conflict are not ill. Most of the clients who choose online counseling are just struggling with difficult patterns of emotional reactivity that probably started in childhood and are affecting the quality of life now.

You are probably looking for effective ways to manage anxiety or depression other than resorting to medications, which only treat the symptoms and rarely change the underlying cause of your emotional suffering. During the Skype Online Therapy Sessions, I teach you mindfulness-based methods for working with your emotions that most people find extremely effective. I give you the tools to change those habitual patterns of emotional reactivity that cause your anxiety or depression.

Whether you meet with a therapist in-person or online, the path is the same for you. At the end of the day, you need to change the way you relate to your emotions. You need to make friends with your emotions.

This is a revolutionary concept for most people, but it an essential requirement for transformation and healing if you really want to change your emotional habits.

This is a core principle of Mindfulness Therapy as I teach it, and I am always amazed at the results that clients experience when they understand how to do this, how to make friends with their anxiety or depression; their anger or guilt; or their compulsive addictions.

SKYPE THERAPY SERVICE

Skype provides a new outlet for the therapy world. Individuals can now get all the advantages of one-on-one counseling, but from the comfort of their home. Clients tell me that there is no difference in the efficacy of therapy over Skype relative to  face-to-face therapy sessions. Actually, many say they prefer therapy via Skype because they feel that they are considerably more relaxed and, therefore, more able to focus on the issue they are dealing with.

Skype is free and very easy to use, once you have registered, all you need are:

  • A good internet connection
  • A headset or speaker for listening. This may help in some cases, but is not absolutely necessary.
  • A private, quiet and safe place for the therapy session, where nobody is going to bother you.
  • A comfortable seat, perhaps with a head rest.

Skype enables you to make video calls to your online therapist, so you will be able to see him/her when you are talking. Again, a few individuals prefer to be in their own particular space instead of being in the same room as a therapist. On Skype, you can see your therapist face - so there is a better sense of connection. This is one reason why Skype therapy is superior to telephone counseling, which has been around for many years.

Video Therapy also known as Online Therapy enables you and your therapist to conduct a session over the internet using a webcam. You can see and hear the therapist and is really no different than face-to-face therapy sessions in-person.

Online psychotherapy and counseling through Skype is becoming considerably more popular and useful for busy individuals. It has been noticed of a dramatic increment in the number of people who want to have therapy sessions in the comfort of their space instead of driving to a therapist's office. Most people say that they find online therapy over Skype to be less intimidating than face to face sessions and that they also feel in charge of the process and more relaxed. This is great because the aim of any therapy is always to provide you with the tools you need to overcome your emotional suffering, so you can carry on with your normal lifestyle.

It is astounding how viable Skype therapy sessions are. In spite of the fact that Skype therapists and clients may be miles apart, it always feels like you’re in the same room. This format is getting to be exceptionally well-known for individuals who travel, individuals who are single parent and for individuals who are not able to leave home for some reason or those in remote area. It’s a help for those suffering from agoraphobia, who are trying to adapt how to adapt to wandering out.

Another awesome aspect of Skype is that it can now be installed on some mobile phones that support it, therefore you can make telephone calls just like normal calls from your cellphone without an additional cost of international calls. If you have a general issue, problem or abnormal addiction and you need online therapy, there is an assistance for you out there. Skype therapy sessions are the key to get back on your feet!

BENEFITS OF SKYPE COUNSELING

What makes this therapy method so appealing? Here are some benefits to the Skype Therapy.

  1. Home Therapy Means Secure and Relaxed Sessions

Skype counseling is profoundly perfect for patients who are battling difficult anxieties and worries of the outside world. Individuals with social anxieties, agoraphobia, obsessive behavior or the individuals who have encountered a deeply traumatic occurrence will find psychotherapy or cognitive behavioral therapy more worthy in their own environments. Rather than not having access to appropriate therapy because of a horrifying fear of going out from one's home, patients can without much of a stress get the treatment they require with therapists using Skype

  1. Skype Counseling Enables Uninterrupted Therapy Sessions

Therapy may not be helpful that some individuals may have to travel from one city to another just to get a therapy. This could likewise mean needing to find a new therapist in a new area, so that the individual could get the treatment they require. The issue with this situation is that it could take an extended period of time before some patients find the perfect therapist they’ll be comfortable with and more vitally, actually like. The therapist might be the best in his/her field, yet if the patient is not connecting or relating with the therapist, the therapy will undoubtedly be unsuccessful. Through Skype therapy, patients can proceed with their sessions with their consistent therapists - wherever they may be on the planet.

  1. Skype Therapy Saves Time

Choosing Skype counseling can eliminate patient’s time to travel, which is great advantage for individuals who live in distant regions. In addition to time saving, without the need of traveling to and fro to the therapist's office, patients don't also need to worry over dealing with heavy traffic.

Does Skype therapy work?

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong and I offer online therapy over Skype. So, Skype Therapy is becoming quite popular these days as an alternative to conventional in-person sessions with a therapist. Skype therapy is more popular because it is more convenient and it's also much more comfortable for you since you don't have to leave home.

Counseling via Skype is just as effective as conventional in-the-office psychotherapy for most conditions such as anxiety and depression and there are quite a few studies that show that online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy sessions. In fact, psychotherapy through Skype may be more effective simply because clients feel more comfortable when they can stay at home. For anxiety disorders it is very important that you feel comfortable; we don't want to add to your anxiety!

So, during the Skype Therapy sessions that I offer, I specialize in Mindfulness Therapy as a way of helping you work with difficult emotions and habitual reactive thinking.

Most of our emotional suffering is a produce of habit. Anxiety is a product of habit; depression is primarily a product of habit, habitual reactive thinking.

So, the first way to break a habit is to develop more conscious awareness of the habit. The more aware we become, the less controlled we are by the habit itself. So, developing this conscious awareness is very much a part of Mindfulness Therapy. We learn to see our habits, the process that causes our anxiety or depression, or addictions or any other emotional problems that we may experience.

So, during the Skype therapy sessions I will teach you how to focus on developing more conscious awareness of your habits. So, that's the very first step - The more you see your habits, the more freedom you begin to discover, the more you can change those habits.

The second theme, if you like, in Mindfulness Therapy is to look at the emotions themselves and to look at the way that the emotions work. Now, what is most interesting in the mindfulness-based psychotherapy that I teach online, is that we understand that emotions have a structure, and this structure is primarily in the form of imagery. Its how you see the anxiety in the mind that creates that anxiety, creates that emotion.

This internal imagery is what really runs the whole show. Now, we are not usually aware of this imagery because we are not used to looking. Mindfulness Therapy is all about looking and investigating how your mind works. So, we want to discover this internal imagery, and when we discover it, then we can begin to change it. When you change that imagery you effectively change the emotion itself.

So, changing imagery is a very important part of Mindfulness Therapy and developing more conscious awareness of your habits is a very important part of breaking those habits.

If you are interested in Skype Therapy and you would like to schedule a session, please go to my website (the link is below) and email me. Tell me about yourself, about the emotional issues you are struggling with and I will be happy to tell you more about how Skype Therapy works, how to get started with therapy on Skype, and I will tell you more about Mindfulness Therapy as well.

So, it's very easy to get started, and the first Skype therapy session is a trial session, which means that there is no up-front payment. If you like the results of the session then you would make your payment, and payments are made online through PayPal in a secure way. But, I really want you to feel satisfied with your Skype therapy session, so there are no up-front payments. So, please go to my website and email me and let's begin exploring how Skype therapy and Mindfulness Therapy can help you. Thank you.

Does Skype Therapy work?

Skype Therapy treats the underlying cause of Anxiety & Depression

Conventional talk therapy can be helpful, but often it does not transform the the underlying process that is the real cause of your anxiety and depression.

The same can be said for medications - the prescription medications may relieve symptoms for a while, but medications are not going to transform the underlying process that causes your emotional pain.

The kind of psychotherapy that I teach online is known as Mindfulness Therapy, which can be extremely powerful for handling chronic anxiety as well as for treating depression and other psychological problems resulting from habitual reactive thinking. Most of my clients experience quite substantial changes after 3-4 sessions of Skype Therapy.

I am often asked if Skype therapy works, and the short answer is yes it most certainly does work for most common emotional psychological problems such as anxiety and depression. It is not recommended for conditions requiring medical treatment, of course, but this is not the usual case for most people. Good psychotherapy should be about teaching you practical skills and ways of working with difficult emotions and that can be done just as well through Skype.

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong and I provide online therapy through Skype for help with anxiety and depression and other common emotional problems. I am often asked if Skype therapy works and the answer is most certainly. It works very well indeed for common psychological problems like anxiety and depression, for OCD, for help with insomnia - I see lots of people who suffer from insomnia - for help with all forms of anxiety disorders like social anxiety and agoraphobia and panic attacks.

Probably, I would say, ninety percent of my clients suffer from anxiety and they have benefited tremendously from Skype therapy, so Skype therapy does work, and the main reason why it's so effective is because you can see each other as well as speak to each other in real-time - and that's very important for the quality of communication that's involved for good psychotherapy.

Also, of course, it depends entirely on the style of psychotherapy that you are working with. So Skype therapy will not work for body-centered psychotherapy and it will not work for forms of psychotherapy that involves establishing up very close relationship with the therapist, but it is perfectly adequate for the kind of psychotherapy that I teach, which is focused on teaching you more effective ways of working with difficult emotions so that you don't become overwhelmed by anxiety or depression or the impulse drives of addictions. This requires you learning skills and practical methods that you can practice by yourself at home - that's really my definition of good psychotherapy, it gives you the tools rather than making you dependent on a therapist.

So if you'd like to learn more about Skype therapy and how it can help you do please go to my website and then email me to schedule a trial Skype therapy session so you can see for yourself just how effective this approach can be.
Thank you!

The Efficacy of Online Skype Therapy

More about Mindfulness Therapy via Skype

Mindfulness Therapy is quite a different approach to the usual style of talk therapy or counseling. We are not talking about our emotions, so much, as we are investigating the process that creates that anxiety in the mind - the actual habitual patterns of reactive thinking that fuels the anxiety or depression. We also explore the nature of your relationship with the anxiety itself. Most people have a very poor relationship with their emotions, especially, of course, if they are unpleasant emotions. We tend to avoid them or we resist them with some form of aversion or hatred.

However, avoidance and aversion simply make the problem worse and prevents that anxiety from resolving. It keeps the anxiety in a state of agitation and feeds the fire essentially. So, in Mindfulness Therapy sessions, I will teach you how to be with your anxiety or other emotions without feeding the fire. This is what brings about healing.

Mindfulness Therapy is a very effective approach indeed, especially for treating anxiety, but it is also very effective for chronic depression, emotional stress and also for working with addictions, too.

Most people see quite dramatic improvements after the first couple of sessions of Skype Therapy.

Online psychotherapy via Skype

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong and I provide Skype Therapy. Many people like the choice of having psychological therapy online rather than going to a therapist's office to meet in-person because it offers greater convenience for you and also is much less intimidating.

I have found from experience that my online clients tend to make progress very much faster than those that I used to see in-person. I think this is because they feel more in charge of their growth process. The online therapy format is really designed to equip you with the effective tools for managing your anxiety or depression or for helping you recover from an addiction or managing OCD or recovering from emotional trauma, etc.

Basically, what really works is when you take charge or your recovery process rather than just going to someone for treatment.

Mindfulness Therapy, which is what I specialize in is extremely good at giving you very practical and effective tools for working on your anxiety or depression yourself. I will teach you these tools, I will teach you how to work with your emotions in a way that allows you to stop the habit of becoming overwhelmed by anxiety or depression or panic attacks, and start the process of recovery. Learning new emotional habits that allow the anxiety or depression to resolve itself.

In my opinion, anxiety and depression are emotional habits, and all habits can be changed once you develop a greater conscious awareness of those habits and how they work and what triggers those emotional reactions.

So, if you would like to learn more about Skype therapy and this approach to psychological therapy online then do please send me an email. Go to my website, learn more and then email me to schedule a Skype therapy session.

The approach that I teach is very practical, very focused and very effective. Most of my clients see quite dramatic improvements after just the first few sessions. So I look forward to hearing from you and I look forward to working with you and helping you overcome your emotional habits. Thank you.

Skype Therapy - Online therapy via Skype

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong and I'm a professional online therapist and I offer therapy via Skype. Skype therapy is an immensely convenient and also very effective way of working on difficult emotions, including anxiety and depression. Many of my clients come to me for help with social anxiety disorder and of course I also see lots of people who are suffering from agoraphobia and are not able to leave their house to work with a therapist.

Skype Therapy - Online Therapy via Skype

So I would say most people who choose Skype therapy are looking for the greater convenience and independence that it offers. Many of my therapy clients live abroad and don't have access to a local therapist. Others live in rural areas of America or Canada or Australia even where it's difficult to find a local service to work with. So if you're interested in Skype therapy please go to my website and learn more about this approach.

One of the other things to consider about Skype therapy is what kind of psychotherapy that you're looking at, because not all forms of psychotherapy will work over Skype. Some of the older versions of psychotherapy depend on developing a very deep personal relationship between the therapist and client. Of course many of the body-centered approaches to psychotherapy are not going to work on Skype. But most forms of psychotherapy are really aimed at helping you better understand your emotions and helping you change your perception on the factors that are causing those emotional reactions. So most of the more typical forms of talk therapy are really more educational in nature and these can work very well over Skype.

The schools of psychotherapy that look at the actual mechanisms of emotional suffering, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or mindfulness therapy, which is what I offer online, work extremely well over Skype, because they are also more educationally based. They're helping you change habits that create emotional suffering.

Another reason why people seek Skype therapy and online therapy in general is because they are searching for a very specific kind of psychotherapy that just may not be commonly available. Mindfulness therapy is an example of that as is Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, a form of mindfulness therapy that is closely related to what I teach but slightly different in emphasis. So I see people who have a specific interest in mindfulness therapy and how to apply mindfulness for working with anxiety, depression, addictions and other difficult emotional states. Again, you can learn a lot more about mindfulness therapy by visiting my website. You can always email me at any time to learn more about Skype therapy and to ask any questions that you have.

So mindfulness therapy which is what I offer online via Skype is a very effective way of changing those emotional habits that create anxiety and depression. We do this by breaking free from the blind reactive habit of becoming identified and reactive. This is the central problem that most people face. Thoughts for example, are common triggers that trigger anxiety and what happens is that the instant that the thought arises it instantly triggers the underlying anxiety. So we work on breaking this compulsive reactive habit so that even if the thought arises you don't have to react with anxiety or depression or any other emotional reaction. We learn to essentially isolate the triggers from the emotional reactions.

This is very, very important indeed for changing anxiety and depression. You have to stop feeding the underlying emotion through reactivity. When you stop feeding it then the emotion will begin a process of what is called "auto-resolution." It will start to change itself if you don't feed it. The analogy here is like a fire. If you stop feeding a fire with fuel then that fire will automatically begin to burn itself out and eventually it will completely burn itself out so there is no fire left at all. The same principle applies to our emotions. If we stop feeding them through reactivity, through identification, through aversion and through avoidance, if we stop feeding them through these forms of reactivity, then those emotions will also burn themselves out. They will learn to change and resolve themselves. This is a very well demonstrated fact.

So if you would learn more about the mindfulness approach and mindfulness-based Skype therapy, do please go to my website, read more of the pages there. Watch the videos on that website and then e-mail me and we can talk further about how mindfulness-based Skpe therapy can help you.

The mindfulness approach, rather like CBT, is very focused in it's nature. It is working on the actual mechanism that causes your emotional suffering, and because it's so focused in its approach you can expect to see big changes after restively few sessions. And indeed most of my clients can expect to see significant changes after three to four sessions. Again, if you'd like to learn more about Skype therapy go to my website, counselingtherapyonline.com

So Skype therapy is an exciting option. It's very effective and it is just as effective as talking in-person if you're interested in changing emotional habits like anxiety or depression or OCD or addiction or social anxiety disorder. Any of these kind of emotional habits can be changed very effectively by mindfulness-based Skype therapy. So if you're interested in learning more to go to my website and email me.

I see Skype therapy clients throughout the USA. I'm based in Colorado but I also see many clients in the UK and Europe and as far away as Singapore and Japan and Australia. All you need for Skype therapy is a good internet connection and of course you need a copy of Skype to download it on your laptop or on your iPhone or iPad or whatever device you use. You also will needs to use PayPal account to make payments for Skype therapy sessions. so all of this you can learn about on my web sites counselingtherapyonline.com. If you want to go ahead and schedule a Skype therapy session with me, simply go to my website and email me and we will exchange emails to find a time that works for you and for me, and it usually was quite quite well. If you are east of Colorado then it's going to be later in the day so that often works very well, especially for clients in Europe and the UK because it will be evening time for them there.

So please feel free to email me to learn more about Skype therapy and how it can help you overcome anxiety, or how it can help you manage depression, or how it can help you with an addiction, or any other emotional problem. Like I say, Skype therapy is really, really effective and is well worth you considering, and the mindfulness approach is even more effective, in my opinion, than most forms of talk therapy out there because it's so focused on changing the underlying mechanism that causes emotional suffering. So please email me and let's schedule a Skype therapy session. Thank you.

Skype-based Therapy

Today, people are turning to the internet to get help for their anxiety and depression, and talking with a Skype Therapist is becoming the most popular form of Internet Therapy available online. People like working with a therapist through Skype because it allows you to have a face-to-face counseling session, but without having to leave home. Convenience is a major factor for its growth in popularity, but there are some indications that Online Therapy via Skype may actually be significantly better for some people. Obviously, if you are suffering from Agoraphobia or severe Social Anxiety, then not having to leave home will be of major importance for you.

You, like many other people, may just not feel comfortable going to see a traditional therapist in his or her office. This can be intimidating and may feel too clinical for many people. Most people do not feel a need to see a clinical psychologist or therapist; they just want some practical help in managing their emotions. This is where Skype-based Therapy can be an excellent option, because the emphasis is on teaching you how to work with difficult emotions in a positive way. It is based on a model of health not disease. We all struggle with bouts of anxiety, depression and emotional stress. Life is challenging and it is a sign of health and strength to want to learn better ways of managing your emotions.

Skype-based Therapy Sessions: An improvement over E-mail Counseling - Talk to a therapist via Skype

Counseling through the exchange of e-mails has been around for many years and is a well-respected form of internet therapy. However, there is just no substitute for being able to see each other face-to-face. This is the natural medium for communication between people and it is unquestionably more efficient, especially for transmitting subtle concepts such as mindfulness and its application for healing emotional suffering. All you need for Skype Therapy is a computer fitted with a webcam (most laptops have this already installed) and access to the internet.

Mindfulness Psychotherapy Online. Talk to an Online Therapist via Skype

Effective Help for Anxiety and Depression - Psychotherapy via Skype

The methods developed by Dr. Peter Strong, and described in his book, 'The Path of Mindfulness Meditation', are particularly well suited for online therapy and have helped many people overcome anxiety and depression. Mindfulness Therapy is also one of the best available methods for treating panic attacks and for Stress Management.

The emphasis during therapy sessions is to help you work in a positive and constructive way with your emotions. If you want to change how you feel then you need to build a positive relationship with your inner fear, depression, anxiety or other emotions. Ignoring your emotions will not help; you have to face them and really see what is keeping them alive and what needs to be resolved within. Similarly, endlessly talking about your feelings is not always enough to change the underlying process that is keeping you stuck. Rather, you need to spend more time listening to what is happening inside so you can discover what needs to change. Talking about our emotions is not the same as being present for our emotions in a very direct way. This is what we focus on during Mindfulness Therapy work; rather than trying to analyze our emotions, we try to intuitively discover what the emotion itself needs to do to change and resolve itself. Most of us are not used to listening to our emotions in this way; we fight them or try to get rid of them through will-power, but this seldom works.

During these online therapy sessions, and most sessions are between 60 and 90 minutes, I will teach you very specific techniques for working with anxiety disorders and depression.

It's very important that you learn how to essentially meditate on your anxiety. You have to from a stable relationship with the anxiety that's non-reactive. Most of us simply react to our anxiety or other unpleasant emotions with avoidance or some form of aversion. We don't like these negative feelings and we try to get rid of them. This is actually the worst thing you could possibly do. This aversion simply makes the anxiety grow stronger; any form of reactivity simply strengthens the anxiety.

What I have found, and many others in the field of Mindfulness Therapy, is that what really facilitates change and transformation is when we can hold the emotion in our conscious awareness without reacting to it with hatred. When you do that you are learning how to effectively be with that  feeling without becoming reactive and without becoming overwhelmed by it. This teaches the mind a totally different way of processing that experience, and this effective way of being with the emotion without reacting allows the emotion to heal.

  1. Be certain that the therapist offers free email consultation, which will enable you to ask questions bothering you about the whole process. How to go about the sessions, which will help you to describe to him the emotional issues you are struggling with and feel satisfied with solutions from the prospective therapist.
  2. Be a good reader. Read books and articles written by the therapist. This is a way to help you determine credibility and professional approach of the therapist.
  3. Ensure that online payment method is regulated by a reliable and secure site, like PayPal.
  4. Make sure that you ask the therapist when the payment will occur. Is it after a session, and this is a good sign if he requests after the therapy.
  5. Approach Therapy via Skype as a medium you will be taught, and which will make you to gain certain tools and insights to help you manage your psychotherapy challenges.

Skype therapy service for anxiety and depression

Find Therapy Online - Best Skype Therapy Services. Contact me to schedule a therapy session via Skype.

Skype therapy is one of the best choices for overcoming anxiety and panic attacks. Most of my clients see very significant improvements after the first few weeks of working with me.

I will be most happy to answer your questions about seeing an online therapist, and when you are ready, you can schedule a Skype therapy session with me.

Greetings! Would you like to talk to a therapist online and get some effective help for healing your depression or anxiety?

Many individuals are choosing to speak with a therapist online over Skype as it's very suitable plus it is also an extremely successful method for getting professional assistance and learning new strategies for managing challenging emotions.

We do not constantly have to resort to using medications to treat depression or anxiety; there are options, and speaking to a therapist online supplies one of these alternatives. At the end of the day, drugs can only go up to now in helping relieve symptoms of depression or anxiety. But medications is not going to alter the underlying process that triggers anxiety and depression. That process is mainly psychological in nature. It's because of the way which you see emotions internally; it is due to the emotions that causes them to have power over your inner imagery.

If you would like to modify anxiety and depression you MUST look at this underlying process and analyze the underlying imagery that creates the anxiety or depression.

On example of the imagery that I am referring to is quite common with individuals who are suffering from a phobia, as an example. For those who own a phobia of a spider then quite definitely it is not the external image of the spider that you simply see through your eyes that causes the panic anxiety, but the internal impression when the mind sees that spider, that it creates.

The essence of the imagery is practically certainly going to be likely quite close, quite graphic in color and very large, and it's those characteristics of the inner imagery which actually create the anxiety.

During therapy sessions that are online we'll learn more about the inner imagery of your emotions and we'll shift that imagery through creative imagination.

The imagery simply arises out of habit, but customs may be changed. When you bring conscious awareness to analyze that imagery, that brings with it some selection, and that permits you to alter the imagery of your emotions. When that imagery change the emotions change. It is actually as easy as that.

ONLINE PSYCHOTHERAPY & COUNSELING VIA SKYPE: A Convenient, Effective and Affordable Alternative

Mindfulness-based Online Therapy has gained tremendous popularity over the past few years. It provides the tools you need to manage depression, anxiety and emotional stress in the comfort of your own home and it is much more affordable. And, of course mindfulness is becoming the preferred awareness tool for creating the right inner environment in which transformation and healing take place.

The convenience of Online Mindfulness Therapy is one of the most cited reasons why more and more people are turning to this first. All you need is a laptop with Skype installed (free download) and you are ready to start. Many people would like the opportunity of working on resolving their emotional problems, depression, anxiety, stress or past trauma but simply do not have the time to commute to and from a therapist’s office. Online Mindfulness Therapy allows me to work with clients from all over America, as well as helping clients in Europe, Australia, South Africa and beyond. We correspond through email to work out a convenient time and then connect through Skype to begin a session. It is amazingly simple, and what is more amazing is that the Skype video-call service is free. Payment for sessions is also easy to make online through PayPal, which is very secure.

Besides the convenience, Online Therapy is typically much less intimidating than going to a therapist’s office and sitting in a waiting room. It is important that the client feels comfortable and in control, and Online Therapy, which in many ways is a form of Life Coaching, is as natural as going to the local Recreation Center for a good workout. The client controls the whole process and this is empowering, which is important for the transformation process. Conducting a therapy/coaching session in the familiar environment of one’s home or office is also more conducive and helps the client get in touch with his or her feelings, which is of course essential for good therapy.

Most online sessions are a combination of counseling and therapy. As a mindfulness-based therapist, I alternate between being a teacher, coach and counselor, providing advice and instruction on the application of mindfulness for resolving difficult emotions at the core level. That is one aspect of the work of online therapy. The other involves experiential work with the client, helping him or her get in touch with core emotions to facilitate their resolution through mindfulness-based techniques. This approach works particularly well in Skype video sessions because clients feel so much more at ease in the comfort of their own home.

Another characteristic of online therapy is that clients are invited to email me in-between sessions if they have any questions about the homework assignments they have been given. In this way the therapeutic process has continuity, which can be lacking in more traditional approaches, and the client feels that they have a friend and coach to turn to when the need arises.

Feeling comfortable with the therapist/coach/teacher is essential and in my Online Mindfulness Therapy sessions, I take great efforts to answer my client’s questions either during a session or through email. It is my policy that each session should bring some tangible improvement for the client and that he or she should feel good about each session. That after all is the key factor that you should use to decide if any therapist, online or in-person, is right for you. What matters is that you feel that you have benefited from each individual session. Most clients who come to me notice significant improvements within 4-5 sessions, not 4-5 years as in some forms of conventional talking therapy.

Online Therapy is becoming more widely accepted as a valuable adjunct to traditional in-person psychotherapy and there have been several controlled studies that support its efficacy. The focus of online therapy/coaching is on teaching clients the skills and tools that help them break free from the grip of depression and anxiety or other difficult emotions, and we can all benefit from that. It may not be the first choice for those with a clinical condition, but most of us do not have a mental disease; we just need someone to talk to who understands and can teach some practical tools for handling the stresses of life and the emotional challenges inherent in a marriage or other personal relationship. In fact, the demand for good quality counseling and therapy, including the very popular mindfulness-based psychotherapy, far outstrips the availability of quality providers, which is yet another reason why you should seriously consider online counseling as an option.

Finally there is the issue of cost. Generally, due to lower overheads, online therapy is considerably less expensive than traditional therapy sessions. Typically, sessions cost somewhere between $70-$120 / hour, which is very good value. The only down side is that few insurance companies will cover online therapy, as it is still relatively new and the Establishment takes time to embrace innovations.

Most online counselors will demand pre-payment for a session, but I prefer to accept payment after a session. That way, no charge is incurred if a client feels that the service is not right for them. It’s another good way of getting to that all-important comfort level where the client feels that this is indeed the right choice for them, which it is for the growing number of people who want to learn better skills for managing their emotions through online coaching sessions.

I practice both in-office and online and find both approaches to be equally effective, and there are a growing number of therapists who feel the same way and offer both options. Of course, phone counseling has been around for many years, but video sessions through Skype has revolutionized the service, and unlike the telephone Skype calls are free.

A Guide to Skype Therapy

Therapy via Skype is revolutionizing the way we do online therapy, which has become increasingly popular over the last few years as an alternative to conventional office-based psychotherapy. Now you can see your therapist in real time and this leads to much more effective communication than previously provided through email counseling or phone therapy, which have been around for many years.

I specialize in Mindfulness Therapy, which I offer online via Skype, and it works very well. People enjoy the Skype therapy sessions and feel more at ease. The anonymity provided by online therapy is also very attractive to many, especially if you are struggling with anxiety, depression or addiction. You might feel embarrassed talking to a therapist in person, but it is so much easier talking to a therapist online.

The Skype therapy sessions that I provide are usually 60-90mins long and are designed to help you work through difficult emotions, including anxiety and depression using mindfulness-based therapy. Unlike regular talk therapy, I try to help you change the underlying cause of your anxiety or other emotional problem rather than just talking about how you feel. You have probably already tried that and are looking for something more. Mindfulness Therapy and CBT are good choices for doing this.

Here is an article about Skype Counseling for you to read.

Skype therapy is becoming increasingly popular, it even has its own name now “Skypotherapy”!

What is it?

Psychotherapy, counselling and therapy are terms that are often used interchangeable. For this guide I will use the terms in the same way. The BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) definition of counselling is:

“Counselling and psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing”.

If you don’t already have Skype™ then here is a link to all you need to know to get started using it www.skype.com/en/what-is-skype/

Traditionally, clients have meetings with a counsellor face to face together in a counselling room. Skype™ counselling moves from counsellor and client being together in a room to being connected via Skype™, with the counsellor located in their place of work and the client wherever works for them - usually at home.

Why people might chose Skype™ counselling over face to face counselling

  • It’s often cheaper; many counsellors offer rates £10 or £15 below their face to face rate.
  • It saves clients time; no travel to and from the counselling location.
  • If you are away from home from time to time, you don’t have to miss your session - just plug in, log on and connect.
  • Some people feel more comfortable working with a therapist who is not local to them - no chance of bumping into them at the post office!
  • Sometimes therapists who work with Skype™ can offer greater flexibility in terms of session times, ideal for people with busy lives and shift workers.
  • Many counsellors who use Skype™ offer a free brief consolation; this gives clients the chance to connect with 2 or 3 therapists easily to see who they can work with best.
  • For some, leaving home might be difficult or emotional, or physical challenges might make this difficult. If leaving home is difficult, part of the Skype™ therapy work might be working towards being able to meet face to face.
  • Some clients may find it is easier to be open and more comfortable talking over Skype™ as opposed to face to face. Some research has shown that counselling via Skype™ can help people feel less inhibited and more forthright during their sessions
  • Greater choice; when you remove the limitation of travel many more possibilities become available to clients.

Challenges / potential issues and cautions

  • Isolation can become an issue for some when dealing with emotional difficulties; here, Skype™ therapy can offer a real opportunity for someone that is finding it difficult to go out. However, it is important to maybe discuss with your therapist about your use of Skype™ therapy over face to face counselling.
  • Confidentiality; ensure you are in a confidential setting for your sessions. You want to feel free to talk and be open.
  • Technology can, and occasionally will, fail us. Most counsellors will agree with you what to do if you can’t make contact via Skype™, or if the connection fails.
  • Skype™ is not appropriate for clients who are experiencing profound mental health issues and/or clients who are suicidal. If you or someone you know is in crisis, a GP or local hospital will be able to help.
  • If at any time you feel uncomfortable working with your counsellor or Skype™ therapy I would encourage you to talk to them - remember, you are in charge. You may find that Skype™ therapy is not for you - if that’s the case, and you are able, I would encourage you to try face to face work as you may find this more appropriate for you and any challenges you may still be struggling with.

How can I “do” Skype counselling?

  • You will need a Skype™connection. You can download the Skype™application for free, and this will guide you how to set up and even shows you how to make a test call. You will need a good connection, sound and picture for Skype™to work at its best.
  • First, find a therapist who provides Skype™ therapy who you might like to make contact with. Initial contact might be via the phone and/or email. They will guide you from there. The author would recommend only working with a member of a reputable counselling organisation.
  • Most sessions last 50 minutes or an hour, and people often work with therapists once a week. You should have a contract; this might include issues relating to confidentially, payment, how long, how often and when you will make contact with each other.

Standard talk therapy can be helpful, but often it does not change the habitual psychological process that creates your depression or anxiety.

The same can be said for medications - the anti-anxiety medication may reduce symptoms for a while, but medications are not able to heal the underlying process that causes your anxiety or depression.

The type of psychotherapy that I teach online is called Mindfulness Therapy, which is very powerful for controlling anxiety as well as for treating depression or other common psychological issues caused by habitual reactive thinking. Most of my clients experience quite dramatic improvements after 3-4 sessions of Skype Therapy.

Welcome! I provide Skype Therapy as a way of helping you work through anxiety and depression or any other emotional problem. Being able to chat to a therapist online can be very effective indeed and online chat therapy is now quite common in many countries, especially Australia and it is becoming more common in the US as well, where it may be difficult to find a local therapist to work with.

Also, a lot of people are becoming much more choosy these days in the particular type of psychotherapy that they wish to use. For example, there has been a great movement in cognitive-behavioral therapy and there is a shortage of good CBT therapists around, so the online CBT option has become very popular indeed, and there has been quite a bit of research showing that it is just as effective as therapy in-person.

Another style of psychotherapy that has gained a lot of interest recently is mindfulness-based therapy, and this is my specialty. I have developed a system of Mindfulness Therapy that works extremely well online for treating anxiety and depression and many other common emotional problems that don't require medical treatment.

Have you ever considered speaking to a therapist online? It's a very good and very popular choice these days. Many people are choosing this as an alternative to a meeting with a therapist in an office. One reason is that it is much more convenient, of course, since you don't have to drive to the therapist's office. You don't have to take out the time to do that. You can call from home, or from your office, or wherever you are, even from your hotel room if you're traveling abroad. Talking to a therapist online is definitely a better choice for most people.

With the advent of videoconferencing over the internet it's now possible to talk to a psychotherapist online and see him or her at the same time. It's really just the same as if you were in the office together. I've been providing Skype therapy for several years now. As far as I'm concerned there is no real difference between online or in-person therapy, especially if you're teaching some form of cognitive therapy or mindfulness therapy, as I teach, where the emphasis is on teaching skills for working with difficult emotions. This can be transmitted online through Skype just as well as it can person-to-person in the office.
