Driving anxiety is quite common. Sometimes it results from a car accident or other highway trauma. Other times driving anxiety can arise as a component of a more generalized General Anxiety Disorder or Panic Disorder in which the driving anxiety is more of a symptom of an underlying unresolved core anxiety formation.
Mindfulness Therapy, which I offer online via Skype, is a particularly effective effective approach for working with driving anxiety, panic attacks and the underlying core emotions that may be triggering the driving phobia.

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong, and I am a professional psychotherapist. I specialize in Mindfulness Therapy, which a particularly good way of working with anxiety, panic attacks and other intense emotional reactions.
One particular specialty that I work with is Online Mindfulness Therapy, which I provide through Skype to help people work with anxiety, including driving anxiety, or driving phobias.
It’s surprising just how common driving anxiety, or highway phobia, as it’s sometimes called is in America. Sometimes the driving anxiety results from an accident or a trauma. Other times, driving anxiety arises as part of a more general anxiety form of anxiety or tendency toward panic attacks that can arrive for a variety of different reasons.
But, in all cases, the best way to work with this kind of phobia or panic attack is to learn how to form a relationship with the anxiety reactions themselves. It’s very important that you learn to make friends, if you like, with your anxiety, and never try to avoid it, or try to fight it, or try to convince yourself that you shouldn’t be feeling this way. Basically, any form of reactivity tends to strengthen the anxiety reactions.
It’s only when you can learn to make friends with that anxiety, and learn to, literally, sit with the anxiety as part of yourself, that the anxiety can begin to change. So, this is a large part of what we focus on in Mindfulness Therapy, and I will teach you how to make friends with your anxiety, and how to create the right inner conditions that allow that driving anxiety, or any other phobia, to begin to change, transform and resolve itself.
The techniques that I teach during these Skype sessions give you lots of homework to do between sessions, and each day we practice these techniques, or you will practice these techniques yourself, refine them, and then you will challenge yourself with a manageable challenge. For example, even just sitting in the car for 5 minutes, 10 minutes or whatever you can do, or driving to a familiar area, and then gradually taking on more challenges each day, and preparing for those challenges using the mindfulness methods that I teach for reducing the panic anxiety.
